Dialogic Video Researcher Tao Liu to Discuss Real-Time Video Quality Monitoring for Mobile Devices

Eatontown, NJ - March 15, 2010 - Dialogic Corporation ("Dialogic"), a global provider of world-class products and technologies for multimedia and signal processing, today announced that Dialogic® Media Labs Research Engineer Tao Liu, Ph.D., has been invited to present Dialogic research on Real-Time Video Quality Monitoring for Mobile Devices at the 44th annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS '10), which will be held at Princeton University from March 17-19, 2010.

Dr. Liu will be presenting during Invited Session FA-02, Video Quality Assessment, on Friday March 19th from 8:30 am to 11:45 am. His talk will focus on the impact that the explosion of video applications and services is having on the mobile industry and the increasing importance of accurate, real-time measurement of video quality.

Liu is a well-known researcher in the field of video quality and has conducted research in the fields of image and video quality assessment, pattern recognition, and video analysis and retrieval for organizations including Thomson Corporate Research and AT&T Labs. Liu is an active participant in the Video Quality Experts Group and is a member of the IEEE. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology and received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of New York University.

"It is an honor for a Dialogic video researcher to be invited to present at such a prestigious conference and we look forward to sharing our work on video Quality of Experience with other researchers in the field," said Jim Machi, senior vice president of marketing at Dialogic. "At Dialogic, we embrace video as the future of network-based communications and are putting extensive time and resources through our research-based organization, Dialogic Media Labs, to ensure that all users experience the best quality that video has to offer."

Dr. Liu will be describing Dialogic's video Quality of Experience measurement technology at the conference. Most work in this area has traditionally been focused on estimating video quality from measurements of the network. Dialogic Media Labs' groundbreaking research is focused on measuring the quality of the video image as it is perceived by the viewer. This involves the development of video quality assessment tools that look at the video pixels themselves; actually measuring the video quality as it is being displayed on a mobile device in order to analyze what the user is seeing. Dialogic Media Labs accomplishes this through using sophisticated models of human vision to analyze image quality.

CISS '10 is co-sponsored by the Department of Electrical Engineering at Princeton University and the IEEE Information Theory Society.
